Rogue River
Trout fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and tubing on a state-designated country scenic river. Children can watch the dam and the fishermen without leaving downtown.
Where you will be
Secluded enough to feel like you have gotten away, yet just minutes from downtown Rockford’s shops, restaurants, and the Rogue River—country quiet without giving up convenience.
Downtown Rockford
Downtown Rockford sits on the Rogue River, a short drive from El Encanto Manor. The street has independent shops, restaurants, coffee, and a seasonal farmers market, with festivals through the year. The Rockford Dam Overlook on Bridge Street looks over the dam. Peppler Park, just west of the dam, has a fishing platform and a walk across the dam. The Rogue River Nature Trail is a boardwalk of about a quarter mile along the bank.

The Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park, a paved rail-trail of about 92 miles from Grand Rapids to Cadillac, passes through Rockford. Walking, cycling, and winter use start near the dam.
Luton Park has wooded hiking and mountain-bike trails. Cannonsburg Ski Area is a short drive for a winter day. Twelve public parks serve the city, several of them on the river.
Distances
About 15 miles south, roughly 20 minutes by US-131. Museums, the Downtown Market, Frederik Meijer Gardens, and Gerald R. Ford International Airport, about 30 minutes, are day plans. The house is the quiet overnight base.
Bostwick Lake is about 6 miles east, a short drive toward Cannonsburg. Myers Lake, Lake Bella Vista, Brower Lake, and Big Pine Island Lake are other Kent County lakes within an easy outing for swimming, fishing, or a picnic.
Grand Haven and the Lake Michigan shore are about 41 miles west, roughly 45 minutes. Cedar Springs is about 8 miles north. The four acres at the manor are the everyday nature; the lakes are the day trip.
Who this suits
People book El Encanto Manor when a hotel floor will not do. Children need lawn and a tree line, not a parking lot. Dogs need a pet-friendly house with acres, not a shared corridor. A reunion needs seven bedrooms and one kitchen. The full barn can be used for activities when the group wants space beyond the living room. Downtown Rockford covers dinner and the river; Grand Rapids covers the city. The exact address is sent after reservation.
